Background

Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence company, xAI, has launched Grokipedia, an AI-powered online encyclopedia that makes it easier for people to find and understand information. The new platform is fully built and maintained by xAI’s conversational model, Grok, and represents the company’s broader mission to help humanity better understand the universe.

Musk announced on X that “version 0.1” of Grokipedia is now live, describing it as the beginning of a project that will grow rapidly. He added that version 1.0, expected later, will be “ten times better.” Despite being in its early stages, Grokipedia already hosts over 885,000 articles, making it one of the largest AI-curated knowledge platforms.

Unlike traditional encyclopedias, Grokipedia doesn’t let the public edit directly. Instead, users ask Grok to add, change, or remove articles, and the AI either makes the update or explains why it can’t.

Some articles currently include a note stating that content was adapted under Creative Commons License, and Musk has said xAI plans to refine and expand its own database by the end of the year.

In a post, Musk emphasized that Grokipedia’s guiding principle is accuracy, stating, “We will never be perfect, but we will always strive for the truth.”

The launch marks another step in xAI’s growing ecosystem of products that combine AI, accessibility, and transparency in information sharing.
