Breaker Secures $2 Million in Pre-Seed Funding to Advance AI-Powered Robotics

Breaker, a Sydney-based AI robotics software company, has successfully raised $2 million in a pre-seed funding round, spearheaded by deep-tech investment fund Main Sequence. Founded in 2023 by Matthew Buffa, Michael Irwin, and Vanja Videnovic through the UNSW Founders Defence 10X program, Breaker specializes in developing AI-powered autonomous robots designed to operate and interact with humans more effectively.

The company’s innovative software enables robots to act, adapt, and communicate in a human-like manner, allowing a single operator to control up to 100 systems simultaneously. The recently secured funding will support Breaker’s plans to expand its team by three times over the next six months, as well as extend its reach in the United States to meet growing demand.

“True autonomy isn’t just about building better individual robots, but about making them work together—and seamlessly with humans,” said Buffa. “We believe the future of robotics lies not in hardware, but in smarter software that allows machines to collaborate and adapt like people.”

Breaker has already established key strategic partnerships to advance its autonomous technology. These include collaborations with US-based SensorOps to enhance autonomous defense applications and Slovakia’s Airvolute to integrate AI agents into advanced drone platforms. Domestically, Breaker has partnered with the Australian Institute of Machine Learning (AIML) to drive AI research in intelligent robotics.

The company has also opened a US office in Austin, Texas, where it is working with US defense customers to deploy its AI-driven solutions. Looking forward, Breaker plans to scale its technology across industries such as critical infrastructure security, search and rescue, agriculture, and mining.
