Key Background:
G’day Group, a prominent regional tourism company, has strengthened its position in one of Tasmania’s top visitor destinations by acquiring Cradle Mountain Wilderness Village. This property will be integrated under the group’s Discovery Resorts brand, complementing its nearby Discovery Parks – Cradle Mountain.
The addition of Cradle Mountain Wilderness Village follows a significant $20 million refurbishment of Discovery Parks, which included the construction of new family-friendly and premium cabins. While the purchase price has not been disclosed, G’day Group founder and CEO Grant Wilckens expressed that the acquisition allows the company to capitalize on growing tourism demand in the region.
“Cradle Mountain is one of the most spectacular and iconic natural destinations in Australia, drawing both domestic and international visitors,” said Wilckens. “With recent investments in Discovery Parks – Cradle Mountain and the acquisition of Wilderness Village, we aim to position ourselves as the premier accommodation provider in this remarkable region.”
Founded by Wilckens in 2004, G’day Group operates over 300 holiday parks across Australia under the G’day Parks and Discovery Parks brands. The acquisition of Cradle Mountain Wilderness Village marks a strategic move to expand the group’s premium resorts portfolio, now totaling eight properties nationwide.
Wilckens highlighted that the company offers diverse accommodation options catering to various budgets, from campsites for hikers and caravanners to luxury stays with premium services. “We are committed to preserving the natural beauty of this destination and working in collaboration with Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Service to enhance its appeal,” he noted.
The Wilderness Village property will be gradually integrated with Discovery Parks – Cradle Mountain to minimize disruptions for guests. It is already listed as Discovery Resorts – Cradle Mountain Village on G’day Group’s website, joining the group’s growing premium hospitality portfolio, which includes resorts across Australia. G’day Group, with a property portfolio valued at over $1.5 billion, is on track to reach its target of $2 billion by 2026.
