Background

General Motors is introducing a new in-vehicle information and entertainment system designed to make driving technology simpler and more personalized. The new interface will debut later this year in the redesigned 2027 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickup trucks before expanding to more vehicles across the company’s portfolio.

The new system focuses on reducing the number of steps drivers need to access common functions. GM has redesigned the home screen, vehicle controls and driver display to provide information based on the driving situation. Frequently used features such as climate, audio and camera controls will remain easy to access.

GM is also introducing a major visual update for its Super Cruise driver-assistance system. The driver display can show surrounding traffic, lane markings and road objects in a 3D view when the technology is active. The company said this aims to give drivers a clearer understanding of what the vehicle detects around them.

The updated interface will also integrate Apple CarPlay and Android Auto without allowing either system to take over the entire screen. Phone-based content can appear alongside native vehicle functions, allowing drivers to move between navigation, media and vehicle controls more easily.

GM has placed its digital experience operations under its human interface design organization, led by Sebastian Bauer, a former Apple and Google executive. The company said the new software platform will support future updates and broader deployment across its vehicle range.
