Key Background
Nothing, the UK-headquartered tech firm headed by Carl Pei, is still living up to its name of breaking design norms with the arrival of its new phone—Nothing Phone 3. Famous for its distinctive look and see-through back plate, the new phone goes a few steps further in both design and technology.
The showstopper of the Nothing Phone 3 is its quad 50-megapixel camera system. This is complemented by the company’s first periscope telephoto lens that comes with 3x optical zoom to help customers take sharper shots from afar. It is combined with a 50MP primary sensor, a 50MP ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 50MP front camera. These additions greatly improve the phone’s camera performance, which can deliver more precise macro shots and beautiful zoomed-in shots with excellent texture and detail.
It is driven by the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 processor, which offers steller performance upgrades compared to its generation. With a 6.7-inch 1.5K LTPO OLED screen and 120Hz refresh rate, the Phone 3 provides a silky smooth and immersive visual experience. It has a 5,150 mAh battery that’s supported with 100W wired charging, and wireless and reverse wireless charging, for convenience and rapid top-ups on the move.
What really makes the Nothing Phone 3 stand out, however, is its back design. It bucking the norm in having a crooked triple-camera layout and the addition of something referred to as the Glyph Matrix. This 25×25 grid of LEDs is used as a visual notification but also enables mini-games, selfie lighting, music synchronization, and customizable animations, blurring the line between functionality and artistic fancifulness even more.
The phone is priced at a starting point of about $799, making it a value flagship compared to some of the alternatives available. Nothing OS 3.5, which is the operating system based on Android 15, supports a five-year software update cycle along with seven years of security patches, reflecting the company’s determination to create long-term value for its consumers.
